(D2 U24) Explain the importance of etiquette when working in media production

Working in media production requires you to be able to show the proper etiquette with your co workers in the work place. Showing proper etiquette within the work place allows for you to be able to create a strong positive reputation for yourself and your business. This means that you are able to have better communication between yourself and employees. Good etiquette means that you are allowing yourself and your co workers the best chance at having a good way to do what they need to do, such as completing work that needs to be due soon. It also means to respect others boundaries. That means simply doing your job and not disturbing others and what their jobs are trying to do.

Following on from this, it is really important that you recognise your position in the business. This means following the structure of the roles of the business. As a video Editor this means you must respect your co workers who may be lower down such as simply someone who hands out coffees and someone who is higher up in the business becuase they have power over you. But in turn by showing a proper etiquette you never know where it might lead you position wise. E.G Someone lower down may in the future be above you and because you showed them proper etiquette you will be in a favourable position.

As a Video Editor, your position within the heirarchy is pretty low down, if you were to act in a neglective manner and also be horrible about your work most likely what would happen is the people in your level and above you would simply get you fired for showboating. Doing this therefore in a more fashionable and friendly manner will likely mean that if your work is good you will be rewarded, whereas if you act horribly it will mean significantly less and people who are higher up will acknowledge you much less.

As well as this, A video Editor must be able to show respect and proper etiquette to not only the people above them. But they must also show etiquette to the clients that they are working for. This is because by showing respect towards people outside the business you are giving them a good representation of not only yourself, but of the business' brand as well. This means that the business will be happy with your positivity and friendliness and can lead to a promotion as well as hard earned respect for what you do as a Video Editor.

The position of a Video Editor within the hierarchy of both the production process and role that enables others to do their job is extremely important, this is because a huge percentage of what a Video Editor does conjoins with the job of someone such as a script writer or sound technician. This means that in order for the production process to go as smoothly as possible the Video Editor must show a strong usage of specific traits regarding their etiquette, this means that they need to have a strong usage of time keeping in order to fulfill the job, they need to be able to have clear communication and speaking skill with their peers in order to do the production process the most efficient manner possible as well as be kind and welcoming to help others if they need it. The impact of having all of these qualities will mean that your co workers who are working on the same production as you are will likely be encouraged by your hard work to get the job done at an efficient manner and pace meaning you will be able to get the job done quickly and perfectly. To conclude the position of the Video Editor within the hierarchy is important as it has a cause and effect on employee motivation and production process.
